Raffia Palm fibres are first softened by soaking and pounding, traditionally dyed and embroidered by women but woven by men. Each piece is complex and can take months to make.

Cheif`s chair of the tabwa people of traditional proportions. among the tabwa, giant snakes represent ngulu or earth spirits and amongst cheif`s privileges is the ability to mediate between man and nature. the motif  appears in representational art, for example on this throne, and indicates the legitimate claim to excercise power.

A striking print copy of a mid 20th century skilled charcoal portrait offered as a gift in ibadan to the family. the date on the second image listed appears to read 1937 but the newspaper cuttings on the original rear/mount are dated 1957 which would suggest this is the date of the sketch.

The Imbangala and neighbouring Chokwe have much in common with bird shaped stools. This is the case with regard both to the decoration with brass tacks obtained originally through trade with Portuguese and to the rows of incised zigzags.
