A wonderful genuine late 19th / early 20th century bronze "akua ba" fertility amulet from the kumasi area. it is unusual to find these pieces in bronze and therefore would have beeen worn by a high ranking daughter of a prominant chief. It would be carried with her at all times until she produced children of her own.

This is a fine mid 20th century ceremonial wand with a used worn patina on the handle danced to celebrate the birth of a child. The typical lidded pende eyes and open mouth give a startled and frightening expression to scare away evil spirits.
